Messner Mountain Museum Dolomites

The so-called "Museum in the Clouds" on Monte Rite between Cortina d'Ampezzo and Pieve di Cadore is one of extreme mountain climber Reinhold Messner's five mountain museums. The MMM Dolomites, which is located in an old fort, focuses on the history of the development of the Dolomites. Keepsakes and relics remind visitors of researchers and mountain climbers whose courageous spirit of discovery helped write Alpine history. The museum also features a picture gallery filled with the most beautiful paintings of the Dolomites from the Romantic period to today. Several fossils on display in the museum remind visitors that the Dolomites once lay at the bottom of the sea countless years ago.
